Emotions are human. If we try to suppress the painful ones, they will come back to bite us in the butt. Noticing them and understanding them can teach us so much, but they don't go away when we ignore them. Even the great Buddhist teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh, taught that the practice of meditation is not to escape our emotions, while so many mistakenly think it is. He wrote, "Meditating is not trying to run away, trying to ignore the presence of pain, but on the contrary, it is looking at it face-to-face."
