Who Are Your Role Models?

Having been brought up in a time when what men had to say was taken more seriously than what a woman said, and when men were considered to be the smarter sex, it’s taken a certain level of courage for many of us to stand in our truth and let our voices be heard. We frequently received the message of invisibility in subtle and not-so-subtle ways from the media, our peers, our teachers, and our bosses throughout our lives. I’m grateful to have a mom who has always been a strong role model, receiving her bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and advanced certificate in education all while I was growing up, teaching me that as women we have as much to offer as men do — and to stand up and be heard.
